Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 18, 2026  ·  Effective date: September 18, 2026  ·  Version: 1.0

Plain language summary: SnoopMy's core function is to show you information that the internet can detect about your device and connection — including your IP address, approximate location, browser, and operating system. To provide this service, your IP address is temporarily sent to third-party geolocation APIs. We do not store your IP address or any other personal data on our servers. We use Google Analytics 4 (with your consent) and Google AdSense (with your consent) to measure usage and display advertising.
Important notice for users in the EU/EEA, UK and Switzerland: This website processes your IP address as personal data under the GDPR. Your rights under Articles 15–22 GDPR apply in full. The legal basis for processing your IP address to provide the core service is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). All other processing requires your consent.

3. The Special Nature of SnoopMy — Core Service Data Processing

SnoopMy is fundamentally different from most websites. Our core service is to display information that the internet can detect about you. This means that processing your IP address, browser information, and device data is not incidental — it is the primary purpose of the Service.

4. Data We Collect, Why, and the Legal Basis

4.1 Data processed to provide the core Service

DataPurposeLegal basis (GDPR)Retention
IP address (transmitted to geolocation API) To provide the IP lookup and geolocation features that are the core purpose of the Service Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — the user visits SnoopMy specifically to see this information Not stored by us; see third-party API policies (§5)
Server access logs (IP address, timestamp, URL, User-Agent, HTTP status) Security, abuse prevention, server diagnostics Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) 14 days, then automatically deleted
Cookie consent record To record and demonstrate your consent choices as required by law Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) 13 months

4.2 Data processed with your consent

DataPurposeLegal basis (GDPR)Retention
Usage data (pages visited, session duration, referrer, device type, country) Analytics via Google Analytics 4 to understand how the Service is used and improve it Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) 14 months (GA4 default)
Advertising identifiers and browsing behaviour Personalised advertising via Google AdSense Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) Up to 13 months (Google policy)

5. Third-Party Geolocation APIs — Key Disclosure

To provide the IP address lookup and geolocation features, your browser makes a direct request to a third-party API service. This request necessarily includes your IP address. We use the following services:

5.1 ipwho.is

  • Provider: ipwho.is (IP Whois)
  • Data sent: Your public IP address
  • Data received: Country, city, region, ISP, coordinates, proxy/VPN flags
  • Privacy policy: ipwho.is
  • Legal basis for transfer: Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — this transfer is essential to provide the core Service
  • Data location: May be processed outside the EU/EEA

5.2 ipify.org (fallback)

  • Provider: Ipify
  • Data sent: Your public IP address
  • Data received: Your public IP address (plain text)
  • Privacy policy: ipify.org
  • Legal basis for transfer: Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f))

These API calls are made client-side (from your browser) and are not proxied through our servers. We do not receive or store the data returned by these APIs — it is displayed directly in your browser and discarded when you leave the page.

If you do not wish your IP address to be sent to these third-party APIs, you should not use the IP address, location, or VPN detection features of SnoopMy. All other features (browser, OS, device, screen, timezone, language, battery, connection) process data entirely within your browser without any external API calls.

6. Google Analytics 4

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.

GA4 uses cookies to collect information about how visitors use the Service, including pages visited, time spent, referral source, device type, browser, and approximate geographic location (country/city). This data is aggregated and anonymised for our reporting purposes.

We have implemented the following privacy settings in GA4:

  • IP address data is not logged by GA4 — Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses by design (unlike Universal Analytics). Only a derived, approximate location is used for geographic reporting.
  • Data sharing with Google products and services is disabled
  • GA4 is loaded only after you have given your explicit consent to Analytics cookies
  • Google Consent Mode v2 is implemented

Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Data transfers to the USA are therefore covered by an adequacy decision (Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/1795). Additional safeguards include Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).

You may opt out of Google Analytics at any time by:

  • Withdrawing your Analytics consent via the 🍪 Cookies button on any page
  • Installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
  • Managing your Google account settings at myaccount.google.com

Google's Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy

7. Google AdSense

With your consent, we use Google AdSense, an advertising service provided by Google LLC. Google AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to serve personalised advertisements based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.

AdSense cookies are loaded only after you have given your explicit consent to Advertising cookies in our cookie banner. If you decline advertising cookies, non-personalised ads may still be shown based on contextual content only.

You may opt out of personalised advertising at any time via:

  • Our cookie banner (🍪 Cookies button)
  • Google Ads Settings
  • Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) opt-out
  • Your Online Choices (EU)
  • AdChoices (Canada)

8. Hosting and Infrastructure

The Service is hosted on servers provided by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. Hetzner processes server access logs on our behalf as a data processor under a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR. The servers are located in the European Union (Falkenstein, Germany).

Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA) provides DNS, CDN, and DDoS protection services. Cloudflare may process your IP address as part of its network operations. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. For more information: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/

9. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data to any third party. We share personal data only in the following circumstances:

  • Geolocation APIs (ipwho.is, ipify.org) — your IP address is transmitted to these services to provide the core features (see §5). This is essential to the Service.
  • Google LLC (Google Analytics 4) — only with your consent to Analytics cookies (see §6).
  • Google LLC (Google AdSense) — only with your consent to Advertising cookies (see §7).
  • Hetzner Online GmbH — as hosting provider and data processor under a DPA (see §8).
  • Cloudflare, Inc. — as DNS/CDN provider (see §8).
  • Legal obligations — we may disclose personal data if required by applicable law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect our legal rights.

10. International Data Transfers

Our primary servers are located in the EU (Germany). However, some of our third-party service providers are based outside the EU/EEA, in particular in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place:

  • Google LLC — certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision); Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) also in place as additional safeguard.
  • Cloudflare, Inc. — certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; SCCs in place.
  • ipwho.is / ipify.org — transfer is based on our legitimate interest in providing the core Service; no adequacy decision exists for all possible server locations. By using the IP/location features, you are informed of and accept this transfer as described in §5.

For UK users: transfers to non-adequate countries are covered by UK International Data Transfer Agreements (IDTAs) or UK Addenda to SCCs where applicable.

For Swiss users: transfers comply with the requirements of the revFADP and its implementing ordinances.

11. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures (TOMs) to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including:

  • HTTPS / TLS 1.2 and 1.3 encryption for all data in transit
  • Cloudflare DDoS protection and Web Application Firewall (WAF)
  • Server-level firewall with restricted port access
  • Fail2ban intrusion prevention on the hosting server
  • Regular security updates and patches
  • Access controls limiting server access to authorised personnel
  • SSH key-based authentication (no password login)

No method of internet transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to maintaining industry-standard protections.
