Your connection type, effective speed category, downlink estimate and latency — detected from your browser's Network Information API. All local, nothing sent to our servers.
⚠️ Connection data comes from your browser's Network Information API and may not be available in all browsers (e.g. Firefox, Safari). Values are estimates, not precise speed test results. Use our Speed Test for accurate measurements.
The Network Information API is a web browser API that provides information about the device's network connection. It exposes properties such as the connection type (WiFi, cellular, ethernet), the effective connection type (slow-2g, 2g, 3g, 4g), an estimate of the available downlink bandwidth in megabits per second, and the round-trip time (RTT) latency estimate in milliseconds.
The API is currently supported by Chrome and Chrome-based browsers (Edge, Opera, Brave) and Android WebView. It is not supported by Firefox or Safari, which means connection type information may show as "Not available" in those browsers.
The connection type reported by the Network Information API describes the physical medium of your connection:
Note that even if you are connected via WiFi, the underlying internet connection may be fibre, cable, DSL, or another technology — WiFi only describes the wireless link between your device and your router.
